Monday 5 May, at the Cargo City of the’Milan Malpensa Airport, The new Operations Office of the 1st Reception and Sorting Group (1st R.S.G.) of the Italian Air Force has been officially inaugurated. The new facility will ensure a permanent presence of specialised personnel in one of the main logistical hubs of the Country, allowing a significant enhancement of customs capabilities and a further time reduction in transit for materials and weapon systems intended for the Armed Forces' Units.
At the ceremony, which took place in the presence of representatives of SEA – the company that manages Milan Malpensa and Milan Linate airports –’Customs and Monopolies Agency and other civilian and military authorities, also took part Commander of Air Force Logistics, Air Squadron General Antonio Preserve, who symbolically cut the ribbon on the new facility.
“The opening of this operational base at Malpensa strengthens the Armed Force's ability to operate with Timeliness e precision in a crucial node for national and international logistics”, declared General Conserva, thanking the representatives of SEA. “Reducing goods transit times is not just an operational matter, but a strategic necessity to ensure full support for our departments wherever they are deployed. On the sidelines of the inauguration, General Conserva, accompanied by Head of Support Services, Brigadier General Massimo Cicero, from the Commander of Fiumicino Refuelling Technical Centre, Colonel Massimo Biscuits, and from the President of the Sergeants Major and Other Ranks of the Logistic Command, 1st Sergeant Major Roberto Carpenters, visited the headquarters of the 1st Reception and Sorting Group in Veveri – Novara.
Here, welcomed by the Commander of the 1st Reception and Sorting Group, Lieutenant Colonel Luca Picconi, took part in a briefing technician on the activities carried out by the Group in the national and international customs field, as well as on recent certifications obtained, including that AEO-C (Authorised Economic Operator - Customs) issued by the Customs and Monopolies Agency for obtaining concessions, such as the simplification of customs procedures and checks.
The General then met with the military and civilian staff of the Department, including also the representatives of the Luftwaffe, and of the company that follows the activities on behalf of the Royal Air Force, expressing appreciation for the high level of Professionalism e dedication proven. The visit concluded with the signing of the Visitors' Book and the presentation of the Crest by Lt Col Picconi.
The activation of the Malpensa operational base marks a strengthening of the capabilities of 1st Receiving and Sorting Group which, along with Fiumicino Technical Supply Centre, plays a key role in the air force's customs logistics operations and, periodically, also for Other Armed Forces.
