On Monday 31st May, at the UNIFIL Mission Headquarters in Naqoura, the handover ceremony between Colonel Pantone and the incoming Colonel Loconsole.
Colonel Pantone, at the end of his mandate, thanked all the Air Force personnel serving on the UN mission, recalling the essential support of the national air component in the complex context of Southern Lebanon. Colonel Loconsole's appointment carries the responsibility of being the staff officer for the UNIFIL mission commander, Spanish Major General Alberto Asarta Cuevas, for aeronautical activities. In his role as Chief of Air Operations, he will also supervise the activities of the Air Force Unit called the Flight Information Unit (FIU). The FIU, headed by Captain Fabrizio Tavano, is an independent unit composed of three air traffic controllers and a weather forecaster, which enables the coordination and tactical control capabilities of UN air assets in the area of operations and supports their planning activities.
