Admiral Giampaolo Di Paola gave a lecture at the 79th Normal Course. The opening speech is part of the curriculum for the Air Force Captains of the 79th Normal Course and fits into a cycle of high-level lectures intended for Officers participating in the university master's degree in Leadership and Strategic Analysis. During his speech, Admiral Di Paola highlighted the fact that there cannot be a “Governance”European, without the presence of a common security and defence system, this system will have to be not a disorganised sum, but rather the ordered set of capabilities that individual member countries are able to bring together. He then indicated the direction to maintain towards a decidedly joint-force and unified vision of European Defence, safeguarding the identities of each State but sharing a single common path on which to rethink and re-establish every objective and development plan in a unified manner. He further highlighted the necessity for everyone, starting with the youngest, to decisively pursue their own change, because this very change is the most significant obstacle.“Tricky”to overcome. During the address, speaking to the attentive audience, he invited the Captains to actively participate within the military context, urging them to be “the strength of change”. Then, addressing the military and civil authorities present, he invited them to [...]“ to build an Italy that is The protagonist and driving force of Europe”. Admiral Di Paolasi enlisted in the Navy in 1963 and gained specific experience in the naval sector, both nationally and internationally, before taking on extremely high-level staff roles in all sectors of national Defence. From 2004 to 2008, he was Chief of the Defence Staff and subsequently Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, until being called upon by the previous technical government, where he set in motion a necessary reform of Defence Institutions, which is still ongoing.
