From November 30 to December 2, the 1st international exhibition on the world of aviation, airports, defense, and space. At the conclusion of the event, on Thursday, December 2, a debate was held on the dual use of UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) organized by CeSMA (Center for Military Aerospace Studies), in which, among others, Brigadier General Giovanni Fantuzzi, Chief of Planning of the Aerospace Instrument of the Air Force Staff, and Colonel Ferdinando Sparpaglia of the Airspace and Meteorology Office participated.
General Fantuzzi presented the capabilities of the remote-piloted aircraft, referring to the experiences acquired by the Armed Forces and the possible dual use. The intervention highlighted the complexity of these systems, the multiple dual potentialities, and the solid expertise and proven capabilities in the field of AM that can serve as a ‘lead service‘ for the use of national remote-piloted aircraft systems. Colonel Sparpaglia spoke about the role of the Air Traffic Control Agencies in the management of remote-piloted aircraft. The seminar concluded with a brief and effective intervention by the Chief of the General Staff of the Defense, Gen. Vincenzo Camporini, who questioned the true meaning that the term ’dual‘ should have. In fact, it should not mean ’military‘ or ’civilian’, but, more correctly, ‘together’.
