The thirty-seven third-year attending students, accompanied by permanent staff and faculty, were welcomed by the Commander of the 3rd Wing, Colonel Francesco De Simone. After the customary greetings, the students visited the various departments of the Wing, where static displays of the main “Combat Service Support (CSS)” projection capabilities were organised for the occasion, curated by the very specialists who operate daily in multiple Theatres of Operation.
In particular, the orientation activities focused on the peculiar competencies expressed by the Wing. The 3rd Wing, in fact, serves as a point of reference for the Command & Control Logistics (C2Log) of operations, in addition to being the national air hub supporting both national and international air operations; a provider of “logistical-operational services”, such as health support for initial deployment operations and field projection services, essential for units deployed in difficult or potentially contaminated environments; and a “training centre” for the military personnel’s training in “Off-road” driving activities (driving activities on a course developed by the internal Driving School of the Vehicle Squadron).
The visit to the Wing represented a concrete opportunity for the students to approach the world of Projection Logistics, as well as a chance to interact with specialists and professionals who are daily involved in real operational activities, to share significant personal and professional experiences with them.
Under the dependency of the Air Force Logistics Command Support Service, the 3rd Wing expresses air logistic projection capabilities to support deployed components, both within national territory and abroad, in military operations and exercises.
