The Brindisi detachment houses the aircraft deployed for the operation conducted by the European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders. The aircraft, deployed in the operation to combat migratory flows conducted by the European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders (Frontex), of which Italy is one of the member countries, will conduct patrols along the borders of Albania, Greece and the Gulf of Taranto.

For years, there has been a service exchange between the Salento detachment and the Puglia Airport Company, within the available resources, both in terms of ground handling and personnel, in order to ensure the execution of essential activities of specific competence with significant economic savings. The Italian Air Force, through the Salento detachment, supports the peacekeeping operations carried out by the United Nations Global Service Center (UNGSC) and the humanitarian operations of the United Nations Humanitarian Emergency Response Base (UNHRD).
The Brindisi detachment also provides 24/7 air navigation services to civil aviation and assistance to passing aircraft belonging to NATO countries.
