The inter-service exercise “Joint Trials 2012” concluded on Friday, November 23 at the Brindisi Air Force Detachment, which saw the participation of the E.I., the M.M., and the A.M. Significant was the contribution provided by the Air Force through the Salento branch, which, in addition to making the training scenario available, provided the necessary technical/logistical support during the preparation and execution phases of the training activity. Over 250 people involved, military and civilians, two helicopters (1 AB-412, 1 AB-212), about 70 vehicles (light and heavy), nine metal-structure tents Argelli, nine Ferino tents, seven shower tents, two expandable tents, four tents with variable geometry, nine pneumatic tents for office use, six power stations and 78 containers were the numbers of “Joint Trials 2012”. In addition to the Acqui Division in its role as Force Command, representatives of the 3rd and 6th Staffs of the General Staff of the Defence (Rome), the General Staff of the Army-Department of Terrestrial Transformation (DTT) (Rome), the Army Simulation and Validation Center (Ce.Si.Va.) in Civitavecchia (Rome), as well as various components of the Italian Army, the Naval Force, the Air Force, and the telecommunications industry, took part in the exercise. In particular, the Air Force, in addition to providing technical/logistical support, intervened through the Department of Management and System Innovation of Command and Control (ReGISCC) in Pratica di Mare (Rome) and the Air Operations Command (COA) in Poggio Renatico (FE).

Joint Trials is a “mixed” exercise, consisting of a Command Post Exercise and a live-simulated deployment of troops (livex), supported by a system capable of generating the situations/events necessary to achieve the training objectives set. Through a series of logistical, technical-tactical and procedural exercises, the ability to deploy the C2 component at the Inter-Force level was verified. The reference scenario was represented by a fictitious operational framework, which included the implementation of a stabilization, reconstruction, and military advisory operation in third countries (Stabilisation, Reconstruction and Military Advice to Third Countries). During the Visit to Training (VTT) Day that took place on Thursday 22 November, the Departments involved in the exercise were visited by numerous military authorities, who arrived aboard a G-27J Spartan aircraft of the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, made available by the Italian Air Force. Among them were the Logistic Commander of the Army, General Mario Roggio, the Chief of the 3rd Department of the General Staff of the Defence, General Salvatore Farina, the Chief of the 6th Department of the General Staff of the Defence, General Franco Girardi, the Commander of the Joint Operations Command (COI), General Marco Bertolini, and, on behalf of the Italian Air Force, the Chief of Staff of the General Staff of the General Logistics Command B.A. Gianpaolo Miniscalco, as well as representatives of companies specializing in the telecommunications sector. At the end of the visit, the Commander of the Ce.Si.Va, General Leonardo di Marco and the Commander of the Acqui Division, General Roberto D’Alessandro, thanked the Air Force and Colonel Aiello for the support provided, highlighting that today more than ever, inter-service collaboration is essential to better manage the resources available to the Defense. The Brindisi detachment, under the supervision of the Deputy Logistics Commander, provides support for the “peacekeeping” (peacekeeping) operations of the “United Nations Global Service Center” (UNGSC) and humanitarian operations of the “World Food Program” (P.A.M.), ensuring 24/7, 365 days a year, Air Navigation Services to the Civil Aviation and assistance to aircraft passing through the airspace belonging to NATO countries.
