The RIAT has always been one of the most important air shows on the world aeronautical scene. Concluding the air show was the display by the Italian National Aerobatic Team, which painted the Italian tricolour against an unexpected blue sky. At the end of Sunday evening, a prestigious award also went to the Italian team: on the occasion of the awards ceremony, in the presence of David Bywater, Non-Executive Director of the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust Enterprises, the C-27J crew has won the highly coveted trophy “As the crow flies”, awarded for the “Best Overall Flying Demonstration”The prize received at RIAT confirms the long tradition of Italian successes during flight demonstrations of aircraft by the Armed Force's crews. The air transport aircraft currently in service allow for economies in use and greater flexibility and interoperability. This flexibility allows a single KC-767A mission to achieve multiple objectives, for example, to carry out an air refuelling and at the same time transport troops and materials, using a single platform where two or more would have been needed. The Air Force's transport aircraft, thanks to their advanced technology, are also reliable means, and this aspect is fundamental when operating in crisis contexts where the reliability of the aircraft is important for mission success and the safeguarding of personnel and civilian or military passengers. The Air Force in general, and its air transport component in particular, have been conducting a careful transformation process for years, inspired by a lean, agile, flexible, interoperable, deployable, highly technological air force, and consequently, a highly professionally prepared one, always in line with available resources. All this in order to be able to carry out its ‘traditional’ tasks, such as the defence of national airspace, with the new expectations and security needs of the country that derive from the general context of international relations, relationships, and alliances in which Italy is involved.
