The Salento detachment hosted an aircraft of the Algerian Air Force that arrived in Brindisi to land personnel belonging to the Algerian naval forces. The aircraft, an Ilyushin IL-76 of the Algerian Air Force, came from Boufarik (Algeria) and arrived at Brindisi airport at 10:35, immediately after landing it was parked at the military area of the Air Force Airport Detachment. The aircraft transported sailors belonging to the Algerian naval forces, who represent the first part of the crew of a logistical support and landing unit under construction in Italy by OSN-Orizzonte Sistemi Navali at the naval yards of Riva Trigoso. There has already been a service exchange between the Salento detachment and the Puglia Airports Company for years, within the available resources, both in terms of available means and personnel. Ground handling Personnel, in order to ensure the execution of essential activities of specific competence with significant economic savings. The Air Force Airport Detachment “T.V. Orazio Pierozzi”, under the supervision of the Deputy Logistics Commander, ensures support for the “peacekeeping” (maintenance of peace) operations of the United Nations Global Service Center (UNGSC) and humanitarian operations of the United Nations Humanitarian Rapid Response Base (UNHRD).
The Department also provides 24/7 support to the air navigation services of the Civil Aviation, to the transit aircraft belonging to NATO countries, providing, in its capacity as the Command of the Air Guard, logistical and administrative support to the Armed Forces Agencies in the Brindisi area.
