The Chief of Staff of’Italian Air Force, Air Marshal Luca Goretti, visited Ali Al Salem Air Base. He was welcomed by the Commander of the Italian National Contingent Command Air – Task Force Air Kuwait (IT NCC AIR – TFA K), Colonel Matteo Zuliani, met the Italian contingent, expressing words of appreciation for the work done in Kuwait and for the self-denial in maintaining peace and security in the area.
The General also thanked the international representatives present for their constant support. Among the guests was also the Italian Ambassador to Kuwait. Lorenzo Morini.
Colonel Zuliani highlighted the Contingent's commitment to combating Daesh, Alongside Coalition forces and in support of Armed Forces in operations in the Middle East and the Horn of Africa.
After the inauguration of the new monument to the fallen, General Goretti visited the logistical areas, in particular the so-called “expansion area”, where modernisation work and the construction of new accommodation units are continuing, under the supervision of the Infrastructure Management Centre (IMC).
During the visit, General Goretti was able to observe the operational activities of the assets and Task Groups of the Task Force Air Kuwait present at Al Salem airport: the’Eurofighter Typhoon, the MQ9-A “Predator B” and the’I2MEC (Italian Integrated Multisensor Exploitation Capability), with which surveillance, reconnaissance and intelligence gathering missions are carried out, in addition to C-130J which performs tactical transport and Medical Evacuation activities in collaboration with the Force Protection Unit and the medical team.
The visit concluded with a farewell to the staff of the Joint Administrative Command Centre (CAI-I), which provides administrative support for all operational missions in the area, and the signing of the IT NCC Air – TFA K's honour roll.
The Italian National Contingent Command Air – Task Force Air Kuwait, was established on 17 October 2014 and placed under the authority – for national aspects – of the Interforce Summit Operational Command.
