The Airspace Control Training Department (RACSA) continues its collaboration with State Corps in the training of operators engaged in the fight against forest fires
Indeed, both for the “DOS” course organised by the Fire Brigade at the national training centre in Lamezia Terme and for the one organised by the State Forestry Corps at their Rimini venue, RACSA instructors taught standard aeronautical phraseology and the rules concerning Air-Ground-Air communications between personnel operating on the fire front and personnel on board fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft deployed for firefighting operations.
The DOS course aims to provide the basic information needed both for personnel destined to manage DOS operators and for the operators themselves deployed in the field. This type of activity helps to ensure a constant preventive training campaign and, consequently, specific assistance to operational forest firefighting activities.
RACSA, which is subordinate to the Air Fleet Command in Rome, is the training body of the Italian Air Force tasked with training personnel – Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers from all Armed Forces – responsible for Airspace Control, Air Traffic and Air Defence, as well as personnel employed in the Meteorological Service. Furthermore, the Unit conducts the assessment of English language proficiency known as the “Technical Proficiency Test” (T.P.T.), which is required for air traffic and air defence controllers in order to manage airspace.
