The meeting with the host of Porta a Porta took place in the setting of the Hall of Heroes at Palazzo Aeronautica
The event, promoted by the General Office for Communication in collaboration with Prof. Leonardo Losito, was chaired by the Chief of Staff of the Italian Air Force, Air Squad General Pasquale Preziosa, and was attended by numerous guests, including the former Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Republic, Giovanni Letta.
During his speech, General Preziosa recalled two events mentioned in the book closely linked to the history of the Armed Force: the earthquake in Abruzzo, on which occasion the War Flag of the Italian Air Force was awarded the Gold Medal for Civil Valour for the contribution offered in rescuing the populations, and the war in Iraq, which effectively represented the first out-of-area operation in which personnel and assets of the Italian Air Force were called upon to contribute to the resolution of an international crisis situation.
Following a brief greeting by Prof. Losito, Air Brigadier General Claudio Salerno, moderator of the event, handed over to Dr Vespa who, speaking about the book, traced seventy years of our country's history: from the post-war period to the economic boom, from terrorism to the bribes scandals, right up to the current socio-economic crisis and recent political events. The famous television presenter concluded his speech by expressing the hope that our country might rediscover the spirit of the post-war period and that sense of unity and solidarity that will allow us to “look to the glories of the past without having to regret them too much”.
