The visit served to illustrate the potential and capabilities of the training areas of the Air Weapon Training Installation. The delegation was welcomed by Brigadier General Giovanni Fantuzzi, Chief of the 3rd Department of the Air Force General Staff, and by the Commander of the Experimental and Standardization Department of Air Shooting, Colonel Alfredo Nazzi.

The visit, aimed at illustrating and making known the potential and capabilities of the training areas of the Air Weapon Training Installation (AWTI), where the allied air forces operate in synergy, involved all the logistical and operational facilities of the Sardinian base. After a detailed briefing on the technical and operational capabilities of the Department, among which the Autonomous Air Combat Manouvring Instrumentation (AACMI), the delegation carried out a flight over all the areas dedicated to flight training activities aboard an AB-212 helicopter of the 670th Liaison and Rescue Squadron.

During the final stages of the visit, General Scott and General Fantuzzi renewed the agreement on cooperation for the employment and exchange of experience between the two countries in the field of remote-controlled aircraft (A.P.R.), in which Italy has now assumed a leading role within the NATO and European context.

Before leaving the island towards the NATO base in Ramstein (Germany) and after receiving the AWTI Crest, General Scott signed the Department’s Honor Roll expressing his deep appreciation for the hospitality received.
