The new helicopter will definitively replace the SH-3D at Ciampino base. The new Italian-made AgustaWestland transport helicopter will replace the SH-3D aircraft in service with the Department since 14 February 1976 in the coming months. The high power reserve guaranteed by the engines, in combination with the excellent aerodynamic characteristics of the helicopter/rotor assembly, allow the VH-139A to perform Category A take-offs and landings up to the maximum take-off weight, significantly increasing safety during these delicate phases of flight, even in the event of engine failure.
