The 11th Basic Electronic Warfare Qualification Course has concluded. The course was attended by 32 participants from the main flight departments of the Italian Air Force and some units of the Italian Army that collaborate with them, such as the Rista-EW Brigade of Anzio, the Air Force General Staff, and the Re.S.T.O.G.E. itself.

The basic course, the main training moment that Re.s.t.o.g.e. provides to military personnel destined to operate in the sector, is aimed at achieving the qualification of “electronic warfare”. The training activity programme, which concluded with a final test passed brilliantly by all participants, includes an educational offering that ranges from notions concerning the shoot-down threat to the study of radars and electro-optical/infrared sensors. Furthermore, the course participants studied in depth the aspects relating to the various fields of application of “electronic warfare”, namely electronic countermeasures, and the support and protection of aircraft supplied to the Armed Force. The basic electronic warfare courses are an opportunity for a first and fundamental contact between the Unit, which is entrusted with the electronic warfare sector, and the operators, destined to become the “end users” of the self-protection “libraries”, that is, the software capable of commanding appropriate behaviours of the electronic warfare equipment.
The 11th Basic Course confirmed the Italian Air Force's growing interest in electronic warfare, with the participation of the highest number of attendees ever in the educational activity. The mission of the Electronic Warfare Operational Support Department, established on 3rd September 2001, can be identified in all operational, training and technical activities aimed at improving the self-protection of assets in all operational contexts. The Re.s.t.o.g.e. is the only Italian Air Force Department dedicated to electronic warfare operational support for the Armed Force's assets and, in the future perspective, will take on the role of Joint Electronic Warfare Operational Support Centre (c.i.s.o.g.e.).
