Dr. Saeli was welcomed by Colonel Spagnoli, who outlined the Wing's activities. On Tuesday, 30 January, Dr. Stanislao Saeli, Military Prosecutor of Verona, visited the 3rd Wing in Villafranca (VR). The Prosecutor was welcomed by the Wing Commander, Colonel Pietro Spagnoli, who held an illustrative briefing on the activities carried out by the Department in the field of Projection Logistics, the sector in which the 3rd Wing operates.
The Prosecutor visited numerous logistical projection assets dedicated to the “Air Expeditionary Task Force Combat Service Support (AETF CSS)”, set up in the field by the Wing's specialists within their respective operational groups. During the visit, it was possible to examine the capabilities that the 3rd Wing demonstrates daily, emphasising its potential for intervention in Operational Theatres, both national and international, within a “Joint & Combined” context. Dr Saeli expressed particular appreciation for the “Forward Arming Refuelling Point – FARP” capability, which allows for the rapid refuelling of aircraft in semi-permissive environments by drawing fuel from an Air Tanker or a collapsible system. Also crucial is the Real Live Support, which sets up field stations to meet the primary needs of personnel, including the establishment of Helicopter Landing Zones. Within the national framework, Real Live Support is used to assist populations affected by emergencies in the event of natural disasters, such as in Amatrice following the earthquake.
The 3rd Wing, under the Support Service of the AM Logistics Command, operates in a joint, international, and inter-agency context, both in training activities and real operations, in line with the mission to ensure the technical-logistical support necessary to achieve maximum operational capability of the Italian Air Force, compatible with the assigned resources. It ensures “Operational Survival” and “Logistical Support” capabilities for Units and mobile components of the Command and Control system deployed outside their permanent bases. It ensures the projection of airport logistical capabilities, which are autonomous, integrated, and scalable, sized to support the National Integrated Force, both domestically and abroad, in both military operations and exercises, guaranteeing the necessary effects, at the right time and in the required place.
