The Commander of the Air Operations Command visited the radar site at Poggio Ballone. General Nordio met with the Sub-Lieutenant Decano, the members of the Base Military Representation, the Advisor on issues related to the female condition, and subsequently attended the briefing in which Lieutenant Colonel Stefanizzi explained the functions and organization of the Maranello radar site.
Subsequently, General Nordio met with all the personnel of the Department, expressing words of appreciation for the work of the 21st A.M. Radar Group “which has been a solid reference point for the National Air Defense for years, composed of highly experienced and qualified professionals“.
The day concluded with a visit to the operations room, the core business of the Department, which for more than forty-five years has been fulfilling the institutional mission of being the sentinel of the national skies.
The 21st Air Force Radar Group carries out airspace control activities in the area of responsibility assigned to it, with tasks including identifying air traffic, disseminating information regarding the air situation, and participating in operations, including through tactical control, when delegated, of aircraft of the national air defense.
