On Friday 7th October, Gen. Jodice, Commander of Allied Air Forces for Operation “Unified Protector,” visited Decimomannu airbase. The General was welcomed by Colonel Pilot Alfredo Nazzi, Commander of the Air Weapons Range Experimental Unit, with whom he had a brief discussion, during which he signed the Honour Book and received the unit's crest. Subsequently, General Jodice met with foreign assets deployed to the Sardinian airport and involved in Operation “Unified Protector,” speaking with Lieutenant Colonel F. den Edel, Commander of the Dutch contingent, and Lieutenant Colonel Luis DOSDA’, Commander of the Spanish contingent. After a detailed briefing on activities carried out, the General visited the facilities dedicated to the ongoing mission, including the flight line where he boarded the aircraft currently deployed: the Spanish Air Force F-18 aircraft and the Dutch F-16 aircraft. At the end of the visit, the General thanked the Commander of Decimomannu Base and all personnel involved in the operation, commending them for the excellent work carried out. Decimomannu airport, in addition to supporting activities related to Operation “Unified Protector,” ensures support for Flying Groups with the aim of enabling, in increasingly complex scenarios, air-to-ground, air-to-air and air combat training for military pilots from Italy, Germany, and other NATO nations. The 670th SAR Squadron, which carries out Air Search and Rescue activities, is also based in Decimomannu.
