The new Commander of the Italian Air Operation Center in Poggio Renatico visited the Department of Ciampino on Wednesday 18 July. General B.A. Gianluca Ercolani, Commander of the Italian Air Operation Centre (IT-AOC) in Poggio Renatico, visited the Department of Services Coordination and Control of the Italian Air Force (R.S.C.C.A.M.) in Ciampino (RM). After the welcome by the Head of the Department, the visit began with the meeting of the staff operating in the National Cells called AMC-“Airspace Management Cell” and ACU-“Airspace Coordination Unit”, both based in Ciampino, through which the negotiation and allocation of airspace at the pre-tactical level is ensured. The organization, as structured, delineates a mature model of civil-military cooperation widely recognized as a reference in the European and beyond panorama. Subsequently, the visit continued towards the Operations Room where military controllers carry out their own activity 7/7 H24, supporting the operational air activity on the national territory. The Commander of the ITAOC was able to witness the complexity and effectiveness of the civil-military coordination activity in the provision of air navigation services, whose ultimate objective is to support the mission of the Air Operations Command. The information contribution provided to the Air Defense activities regarding the movements of General Air Traffic (GAT) is also of primary importance.
After the visit to the Operations Room, the Commander of the RSCCAM presented an explanatory briefing on the multifaceted functions of the SCC System. The day concluded with greetings and the signing of the Department Honor Roll. The Coordination and Control Services are located at the ENAV SpA Area Control Centers (ACC). They ensure: support for air operations through the control and coordination of Operational Air Traffic (OAT); airspace management at the pre-tactical and tactical levels; and coordination of Air Defense activities in the context of General Air Traffic.
