Major General Giorgio Baldacci paid a visit to the Automated Information Systems Department. On Thursday 22 February, the General of the Weapons Corps, Major General Giorgio Baldacci, visited the Automated Information Systems Department (ReSIA) as part of. visits to commands headed by Officers of the Corps, in which the professional specialities of the Armed Force are expressed. “As an Officer from the Telecommunications sector, I am particularly proud of the competence, professionalism, and level of specialisation that distinguish the personnel of this Department, which is unique within the Armed Forces. Congratulations on what you do.” This is how General Baldacci addressed the ReSIA personnel during his speech, during which he shared some programmatic outlines of the Armed Forces and ongoing organisational transformations, including the approval of the new professional Role architecture, the result of an optimisation process of categories and specialisations. During the visit, the importance of increasing “cyber culture” among personnel was stressed, as an essential prerequisite for facing threats from the network. In reference to this aspect, the Air Force has launched a series of initiatives, including the publication of the Cyber Security News magazine on the institutional website.
During the visit, the importance of increasing “cyber culture” among personnel was highlighted, as an essential prerequisite for confronting threats from the network. Cyber Defence, IT infrastructure security, and personnel training in the field of Information Communication Technology (ICT) are some of the areas that define the knowledge, capability, and professional scope of the ReSIA. Placed under the 3rd Division of the Logistics Command of the Air Force, it has taken on an increasingly vital and strategic role for the Armed Force in recent years, becoming a centre of excellence in this specific sector.
For this reason, it was necessary to re-scope its mission to adapt it to the new challenges posed by a scenario in which “cyberspace” has undergone a lightning-fast evolution, requiring ever more timely and effective responses to counter the growing threats from the network. These threats have drawn the attention of the Government itself through the adoption of the new “National Plan for Cyber Protection and Information Security” and the establishment of a Joint Command for Cyber Operations (CIOC). The General of the Arms Arm is the consultant to the Chief of SMA (Air Force Staff) for matters concerning the Arm, with particular regard to training and personnel employment profiles, as well as for technical issues in the specific sector.
