The process of rationalising the Air Squad Command (C.S.A.) structure has been activated. The new structure is directly subordinate to the High Commander and is organised into two branches, “Command and Control Office”and“Personnel Office”.
Colonel Fabio Rinaldi, formerly interim head of human resources management for the Air Squad Command, has taken up the post of Head of the General Office. As part of the establishment of the new office, agencies within the Command area and those reporting to the Deputy Commander have been integrated into a single organisational structure, centralising functions and professional capabilities of interest to the High Command leadership and rationalising the numerical strength of the staff, in full compliance with the policy directives issued by the Armed Forces leadership and in implementation of the legal requirements arising from the “Spending Review”and“Rationalisation of the Military Instrument”.
Shortly, staff at the CSA General Staff will also be affected by an important restructuring aimed at streamlining the High Command structure and, at the same time, enhancing the Air Force General Staff with the experience and professional capabilities acquired by its personnel in training/operational fields.
The C.S.A. is hierarchically superior to the peripheral operational bodies/departments of the Air Force (Intermediate Commands, Brigades, Wings, Airbases, Flying Squadrons, Radar Squadrons, Training Bodies, etc.). The institutional task assigned to the High Command is to prepare these Units so that they acquire and maintain the level of operational readiness and logistical autonomy necessary to achieve the objectives defined by the Armed Force. As part of the rationalisation process that has been affecting the Defence Sector for years, the C.S.A. has also assumed, since 1 January 2011, the operational employment functions of the dependent Departments, through the structure of the Air Operations Command (C.O.A.) in Poggio Renatico (Ferrara). Overall, the C.S.A. consists of 87 units comprising Commands, Departments and Training/Operational Support Bodies distributed throughout the national territory, with an organic strength of approximately 19,000 personnel (between military and civilian).
