General Frank Gorenc, Commander of the US Air Forces in Europe, visited Ghedi Air Base (BS).
The General of the United States Air Force (USAF) was welcomed by Air Division General Nicola Lanza De Cristoforis and Colonel Andrea Di Pietro, Commander of the 6th Wing, who accompanied him to the Wing Commander's office to pay homage to the Unit's War Flag, where the traditional exchange of crests also took place. General Gorenc also signed the Wing's Guest Book, thanking the Diavoli Rossi.“for the fantastic visit and the special partnership”.
The authorities and the Wing Commander then proceeded to the meeting room where Colonel Di Pietro outlined the Unit's activities, presenting the 6th Wing's capacity and operational scope, its integration into the local/territorial community, and finally listing the numerous joint activities between Italian and US military personnel. The delegation then proceeded to visit the infrastructures of the Ghedi Military Airport: the Command and Control Centres, the flight group headquarters, the maintenance hangars, and other support facilities, pausing at one of the shelters (protected aircraft hangars) to observe a joint exercise between the forces of the two nations.
At the end of the visit to the base's infrastructure, Gen. Gorenc stayed in the area dedicated to USAF personnel and finally, when bidding farewell to Col. Andrea Di Pietro, expressed “total satisfaction for the exceptional cooperation that Italians and Americans demonstrate daily in Ghedi, a team effort carried out without fanfare, but thanks to which our nations guarantee mutual security, within the context of the Atlantic Alliance.”.
