A delegation from the European Air Transport Command of Eindhoven (EATC) visiting the 14th Stormo This command aims to combine the operational capabilities of the Nations participating in order to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of air transport activities, refuelling in flight and medical evacuation (MEDEVAC), according to the principles of “pooling and sharing“.
The delegation, led by the Commander of the EATC Major General Christian Badia, was welcomed by the Air Division General Roberto Comelli, Commander of the Support and Special Forces, and by Colonel Andrea Massucci, Commander of the 14th Squadron, who explained to the guest the operational capabilities of the Department.
Maj. Gen. Badia, after the traditional signing of the honor roll and the exchange of crests, was able to board the KC767A, of which he appreciated the capabilities in the field of in-flight refueling and, subsequently, the P180 RM, of which he had the opportunity to learn about and appreciate the capabilities of radio measurements, an area of excellence of the Italian Air Force. The 14th Wing is based at the Military Airport of Pratica di Mare. It is hierarchically subordinate to the Rome Air Support and Special Forces Command and conducts support missions in the field of in-flight refueling, radio measurements and personal transport with the KC767A and P180 Avanti aircraft, in full compliance with the plans and directives received from the Air Force Squadra Aerea Command, the High Command of the Air Force to which the training, deployment and use of assets and personnel operating at operational units throughout the national territory is assigned. It also guarantees the availability and transport service in support of the Department of Civil Protection. The 14th Squadron has contributed by participating in the Unified Protector operations in Libya, ISAF in Afghanistan, Leonte in Lebanon and Lorica in Cyprus.
