Colonel Grassi continues the cycle of familiarization visits of the entities that depend on the Fiumicino Technical Supply Center
Colonel Grassi was welcomed by Lieutenant Colonel Francesco De Simone, Commander of the 1st G.R.S., by the staff of the agency and by representatives of the Luftwaffe and the Air Force operating at the Department.
During the briefing, Lt Col De Simone outlined the organization, institutional tasks and the objectives achieved by the Department. In particular, the various and complex customs activities related to the international movement of Air Force materials were examined, also with regard to support for Operations Outside National Borders (OFCN), in favor of the units of the Armed Forces engaged in international missions.
A particular in-depth study was then devoted to the unique function of the 1st G.R.S. as a “Transhipment Depot” within the framework of the so-called “EF2000 and Tornado Transport Network (ETTN)”, which allows the movement of components, materials and equipment from and to Great Britain, Germany and Spain for the Tornado and Eurofighter weapon systems.
The Commander of the C.T.R. was subsequently accompanied on a visit to the Agency’s infrastructure, which concluded with the signing of the Honor Roll and the delivery of the Department insignia.
The 1st G.R.S. is part of the Support Services system of the Logistics Command under the direct control of the Fiumicino Technical Supply Center, with responsibilities for receiving, shipping, distributing, and clearing customs of material originating from abroad and military programs acquired in foreign lands. Since the 1990s, the department has been home to representations of the British Royal Air Force, the Luftwaffe, and the Air Force, established following the introduction of the Tornado Weapon System and the launch of the Eurofighter program.
