Inspector General Marcello di Lauro carried out an inspection at the 6th Wing to check the progress of the works. After saluting the War Flag of the 6th Wing, General Di Lauro was welcomed by Colonel Luigi Del Bene, Commander of the Wing, and signed the Book of Honour.
Subsequently, Colonel Del Bene gave a briefing to the guests outlining the current operational and logistical infrastructure situation at both Ghedi airport and the Desenzano del Garda Detachment, the former seaplane base. This also took into account planned works, highlighting associated critical issues and future requirements.
The Head of Infrastructure Services then carried out an inspection of the ongoing construction sites, noting the advanced stage of execution of the works and verifying, in particular, that the runway will be reopened within the scheduled timeframe, i.e. by the end of August.
At the end of the visit, General Di Lauro thanked Colonel Del Bene for the hospitality received and for the efficiency demonstrated by the personnel of the Department, expressing his sincere appreciation to Colonel Gambardella and Colonel Bizzarro for the work carried out at a Base of fundamental importance to the Armed Force.
The 1st Air Force Engineer Regiment is responsible for the construction and maintenance of flight infrastructure for operational units deployed both domestically and abroad.
