The Chief of Defence Staff visits the Air Force Academy

General Luciano Portolano met with the students of the Training Institute in Pozzuoli

The Chief of the Defence Staff, General Luciano Portolano, as part of a series of visits to the Institutes of Training for the Armed Forces, Among the first entities he wanted to meet after his recent appointment, he paid a visit today, Monday 18 November 2024, to the’Air Force Academy of Pozzuoli, during which the training activities that prepare the future Officers of the Italian Air Force were illustrated.

 
Upon his arrival at Pozzuoli He was received by the Commander of the Air Force Schools/3rd Air Region, Air Force General Silvano Frigerio and from the Commander of the’Air Force Academy, Air Vice-Marshall Luigi Casali.

 
The day began with an informative briefing given by General Casali on training activities, focusing on the educational programs and educational objectives aimed at developing the technical-professional skills and leadership qualities of the Officer Trainees.

The activities of the newly established “Training Units” were also illustrated, through which participants deepen in an extracurricular manner the emerging fields of interest for the Armed Forces, currently identified in the areas of drone deployment (Drones Academy Research Team), cyber-security (Air Force Hackademy), artificial intelligence (Awareness and Research in Artificial Intelligence), aerospace and space (Academy Space Team for Research and Aerospace Studies) and emergency medicine (PROMETHEUS).
 
Following this, the Chief of the Defence Staff wanted to meet the students and staff of the Institute, to whom he emphasized the opportunities and challenges that await them and shared his own experience in service to the country.
 
Addressing the young Trainees, future leaders of the Air Force and the Navy Defence, General Portolano expressed his appreciation, urging them to always operate based on three fundamental pillars: character, competence, and moral courage. The Chief of the Defense Staff also added that they are always determined and resolute in every choice, having the courage to shoulder the responsibilities of the decisions made.
 
At the conclusion of his speech, the General emphasized the importance of synergy between the various Armed Forces, reminding the cadets and officers that each of them is part of a larger structure, which is the Defense, and that each Armed Force is essential only if it works in synergy with the others.
 
In that context, the Lieutenant Colonel then took the floor. Marco Iannuzzi, Officer of the Honor Roll, an example of dedication, strength, and moral courage, who at the end of his brief presentation greeted the young apprentices with such emotion: “Always be masters of your destiny and be honest with yourself and with your superiors.”.
 
Subsequently, General Portolano made a visit to the infrastructure, including the Engine Room, the Institute Chapel and the Historical Corridors, and attended the parade of the three youngest courses on the Gold Medal Square.
 
The day ended with the signing of the Honor Roll.
