The event took place at the Ajmone Cat room at Palazzo Aeronautica. The event was organized by the Head of SMA to emphasize the role that the Sub-Lieutenant figure plays within the Armed Forces, to the point that the ordering regulations contained in the OD-1 Ed. 2013 publication were revised to expand the duties of the President of the Sub-Officers, including their presence in all the entities of the Air Force at the top of which there is a Corps Commander.
It was also planned to make the figure of the Sub-Officers’ President immediately recognizable through an ad hoc badge, which the concerned individuals will wear throughout the duration of their term of office.
During the meeting, which was also attended by a delegation from the Central Representation Council (Co.Ce.R.) of the Air Force, the Sublieutenants explained to the Chief of SMA the main issues concerning military personnel, especially at a time as delicate as the current one.
The appointment of the President is made by the Commandant of the Entity to a Sub-officer chosen from among the Senior Lieutenants of the most senior section. His appointment takes into account the overall qualities of the selected military officer, with particular reference to charisma, training, competence, ability and direct knowledge of the environment. The appointed Sub-officer represents, within the Entity, an example and a point of reference for all personnel belonging to the category of Sub-officers, graduates and troops. He, together with the Group Commanders and the Heads of Offices, assists the Commandant in his task of maintaining the high prestige and effectiveness of the Department.
