A Falcon 900 from the 31st Wing carried out an urgent medical transport of a newborn baby from Cagliari to Pisa. The transport request, deemed necessary to guarantee immediate specialist medical care for the young patient, was received by the Situation Room of the Air Force Staff via the Prefecture of Cagliari, which ordered the immediate execution of the flight. The aircraft, a Falcon 900 belonging to the 31st Wing of Ciampino (Rome), landed at the “Mario Mameli” airport in Elmas-Cagliari at 12:25 and departed at 13:42 for Pisa airport, where it arrived after approximately 1 hour of flight. The newborn, housed in a special incubator and accompanied by family members, was attended to during the flight by a medical team from the Cagliari hospital. Upon arrival at Pisa's ’Galileo Galilei“ airport, the young patient was immediately transferred by ambulance to the hospital in Massa, approximately 50 km away. Cagliari-Elmas airport currently serves as the main hub for this type of flight for the entire southern part of Sardinia, as it is close to the main hospital facilities in the regional capital. The aircraft of the 31st Wing of Ciampino are used for State transport and public utility missions, such as the urgent medical transport of the sick, severely injured individuals, and organs for transplantation, as well as for interventions in favour of people in risky situations, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
