The Italian Army, the Police Headquarters and the Naples Fire Brigade have enriched the training content of the ICCS cycle with seminars and live exercises
The training in question, aimed at providing all military personnel – and, in particular, Air Battle Managers – who are deployed both nationally and internationally, often also as supervisors of operational missions conducted using the Predator (AIB) aircraft, with the basic individual knowledge known as ICCS, covered various training areas and, for the first year, involved numerous institutional partners from outside the Armed Forces, offering specialised interdisciplinary insights, each within their specific professional field of expertise. Based on the findings from training activities carried out in previous years, and with a view to addressing certain gaps identified, but above all to further motivate and raise awareness amongst the personnel to be trained, the following were specifically involved, with both theoretical and practical modules: personnel from the 8th Engineer Battalion of the Italian Army’s Garibaldi Brigade, for aspects relating to IEDs and counter-IEDs (improvised explosive devices), personnel from the Naples Police Headquarters, for in-depth training on procedures for the detention, deterrence and management of any unauthorised personnel entering military areas; and personnel from the Naples Provincial Fire Brigade, for fire-fighting techniques. Building on the positive results of this institutional collaboration and in view of the difficult economic climate, the 22nd Radar Group of the Italian Air Force will organise, this time in collaboration with the Campania Regional Committee of the Italian Red Cross, based in Caserta, BLS and BLSD first-aid training courses for its staff. Moreover, developments in the international situation, with the emergence of new forms of threat – such as that posed by improvised explosive devices (IEDs – IEDs), has made it necessary to review the preparatory training for deployment outside national borders – normally concentrated at the 3rd Wing in Villafranca – by extending its duration and expanding the training programme to include ad hoc courses held directly within the units. Each unit has therefore drawn up a local training plan, aimed at training its own personnel and assessing their level of learning at the end of each training cycle.
