85 Cadet Lieutenants participated in the visit to the “Red Devils” base, accompanied by the Course Commander Col. Briancesco. The visit is part of the educational activities planned in the Study Plan and aims to provide course participants with elements of knowledge about the operational activities of the Armed Forces in order to guide them appropriately in the selection of the categories that will be made in the coming days. The visit began with a briefing by the Commander of the 6th Wing, Col. Andrea Di Pietro, who, after a greeting address, explained the various realities of the Department, focusing in particular on the operational activities carried out by the Wing and the peculiarities of the various professional categories that operate in direct contact with the aircraft in service (Tornado) and that ensure the operation of the base. Subsequently, the trainees were able to visit the shelters where the Tornadoes are housed and where they were able to learn about all the support activities necessary to ensure the efficiency and operationality of this important weapon system. During the day, the attendees also visited the Flight Simulator and the Aircraft Efficiency Group, and before leaving they witnessed some takeoffs during the normal training activities of the Department.
For Colonel Paolo Briancesco, who has returned to what for years has been his home, “the visit proved extremely important for the participants of the 16th Thunor Course, who will thus, at the time of choosing the categories, have new and important reference points to use in order to make an even more well-considered assessment and to follow their personal and professional inclinations.”.
