From January 22nd, two weeks of air combat and night flying training for the 50th Wing's aircraft. The 155th ETS (Electronic Warfare Tactical Suppression) Group, equipped with the Tornado ECR (Electronic Combat Reconnaissance) weapon system and HARM (High-speed Anti-Radiation Missile), specialises in electronic warfare with the primary task of SEAD (Suppression of Enemy Air Defence) systems. The specificity of the role requires the availability of real missile systems and/or simulators, operating in a controlled electromagnetic environment, in order to verify the effectiveness of the tactics and libraries used by the weapon system.
The availability of the PISQ and the missile systems deployed there allows for the performance of basic night missions with radar engagement training by the SPADA missile battery, as a prerequisite for more advanced activity to be held, during the year, at the ’Polygone' Electronic Warfare range, on the border between Germany and France. The important training opportunity provided to the personnel of the 155th Group involves the RSSTA in a synergistic effort, providing the usual support for aircraft flight activity, and the 2nd Wing of Rivolto (Udine), whose personnel are deployed at the PISQ to operate the missile systems opposing the ECR aircraft, ensuring the maximum realism of the employment scenario.
