From Friday 22 January to 19 February, 5 Tornado fighter-bombers, along with pilots and specialists from the 102nd and 156th Groups of the 6th Wing, will be present in Trapani. The Trapani base, which is tasked with providing support for the activities of colleagues arriving from Lombardy, was chosen due to its favourable weather conditions and the vast availability of airspace not congested by traffic, according to Major Massimiliano Pasqua, Commander of the 102nd Group and Head of the deployment—ideal conditions to allow young pilots in training to carry out their first missions while focusing primarily on handling the aircraft in complete safety.
And on Monday 25th January, Colonel Francesco Vestito, Commander of the 6th Wing, joined his personnel, and was able to verify, accompanied by Colonel Bruno Strozza, Commander of the 37th Wing, the quality of the technical and logistical support provided by the Trapani-based Unit.
During the same period, six F-16 fighter jets, together with pilots and specialists, are deployed until 5 February in Sardinia to carry out an ACMI (Air Combat Manoeuvring Instrumentation) campaign at the Air Armament Experimental and Standardisation Centre (RSSTA) in Decimomannu (Cagliari), with the aim of refining interception and air combat techniques.
