The “F. Baracca” Airport in Centocelle has enriched its historical and cultural heritage. The Centocelle Airport is the first airport in Italy and its grounds hide vestiges of Roman times belonging to large villas from the imperial period; inside you can also admire the Casilina Fort, which, along with the other 14 in the city of Rome, was part of the defensive system that was built by the Kingdom of Italy after the breach of Porta Pia. The work created by the artist strongly recalls the historical traditions of Centocelle and with his work he wanted to seal the important legacy of the Wright undertaking.
The fresco of remarkable dimensions (150 x 250 cm) was created using shades of white and black in order to represent the mood of the pioneers of flight, dedicated to the uncertainty of the outcome, but animated by enormous courage that would later amply reward them by opening the way to the conquest of the skies. The work was inaugurated by General S.A. Carlo MAGRASSI, Deputy Commander of the Air Force, in the presence of General S.A. Tiziano TOSI, Commander of the Air Force (C.S.A.), General S.A. Gabriele SALVESTRONI, Chief of Staff of the C.S.A., and the presence of the Commander of the “F. Baracca” Airport, Colonel Giuseppe RAUCCI, who strongly wanted the fresco to be created.
