The order of employment was received on Monday, 28th March by the Air Operations Command (COA) in Poggio Renatico (Ferrara).
The helicopter, following the deployment order received from the Air Operations Command (COA) of Poggio Renatico (Ferrara), took off on the morning of Monday, 28th March, from its base in Romagna, heading for Ancona-Falconara Airport. There, it embarked Dr. Mancinelli from the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps (CNSAS), transporting her to the operations site to support the rescue teams that had been present since the previous evening. The HH-3F helicopter then proceeded to Latina military airport, where it remained awaiting further orders regarding the progress of operations. It received the go-ahead to return to base once the caver had been safely rescued.
The 15th Wing, with its Groups/Centres, guarantees search and rescue for flight crews in distress 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It also contributes to public utility activities such as searching for missing persons at sea or in mountains, emergency medical transport of critically ill patients, and rescue of seriously injured individuals. Since its establishment, the 15th Wing has saved approximately 7,000 people from life-threatening situations.
