The HH-139, from the 82nd CSAR Center in Trapani, was deployed to Lampedusa on Wednesday, October 16th. The HH-139 helicopter, from the 82nd CSAR Center (Combat Search and Rescue) of the Italian Air Force, based in Trapani, was deployed on Wednesday, October 16th at the airport of Lampedusa, from where it will continue to ensure the normal activities it carried out from Trapani as part of the national SAR system of the Armed Forces. The temporary presence of the A.M. helicopter in Lampedusa, in the current emergency scenario that characterizes the Southern Mediterranean, in fact represents an optimization in the use of the asset, which, as happened in this case, can be deployed more quickly for any possible search or rescue requirement in the area.
The activity was supervised by the Rescue Coordination Center in Poggio Renatico and the crew was in continuous radio contact with Circomare Lampedusa. After about two hours of aerial operations, the helicopter of the 15th Squadron left the area to land at the airport of Lampedusa. Air Rescue is one of the services provided daily by the 15th Squadron and its centers, also in collaboration with the Coast Guard and the other Armed Forces. This service is carried out throughout the national territory and the seas, as well as in the Mediterranean basin within the multinational agreements with neighboring countries, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
