The students of the 13th “Phoenix” course, accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Grassi, visited the new headquarters of the Arezzo Web Farm
The event, which falls within the educational activities set out in the study plan of the degree course in Organisational and Management Sciences, provided aspiring marshals with the opportunity to observe from the inside the operation of a top-tier professional data room, exploring in depth the theoretical concepts of computer networks learned during the over 160 hours of basic computer science lessons held during the current academic year. In addition to computer science, students in the Logistics Support category tackle various technical/scientific subjects during their second year of study, such as optics, cartography, and probability and statistics, the latter developed over approximately 50 periods entirely in English.
During the visit, Marco Grassi, head of the Server Farm, explained important concepts regarding reliability, redundancy and uptime values to the students, which guarantee the provision of network services to clients without interruption. Several interesting technical solutions have been implemented to resolve typical data room criticalities, which can often also be found in aeronautical contexts: the powerful environmental air conditioning systems with automatic humidity control, the redundant power supply lines with latest-generation UPS, the sophisticated argon and nitrogen gas fire suppression system, the remote surveillance system, active 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, integrated with a system of motorized cameras and a state-of-the-art infrared alarm system protecting the entire perimeter.
The visit ended with the presentation of the “Phoenix” course crest to the Web Farm manager.
