The concert, open to the public, was held at the Trullo Sovrano, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On Thursday, June 21st, the Band of the Air Force School Command/3rd Air Region of Bari performed in Alberobello (BA), in the enchanting square in front of the Trullo Sovrano, on the occasion of the Music Festival. This day, celebrated for years in all the main cities of Italy and Europe, is promoted by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism (MIBACT) in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense.
The popular event is held on June 21st every year to celebrate the summer solstice. Initiated in France in 1982 with performances by artists in the streets of the cities, it has developed in Europe since 1995. Every year, numerous live music concerts take place in all the cities, mainly outdoors, with the participation of musicians of all levels and genres.
The Mayor of Alberobello, Attorney Michele Maria Longo, Colonel Giovanni Riganti representing Air Force Commander Umberto Baldi of the 3rd Air Region, as well as local military and civil authorities, and many citizens who turned out in large numbers for the occasion were present at the evening event. The performance of the Fanfara, masterfully directed by 1st Lt. Lgt. Nicola Cotugno, not only provided the public with moments of entertainment, culture and sharing, but also provided an opportunity to promote and support the strong bond between the Navy and the territory of Bareggio, through a program that thrilled and satisfied all the audience present, from the Rossini’s “L’italiana in Algeri” symphony to the famous Morricone soundtracks, passing through unforgettable film themes such as “Il postino” and ending with the European anthem “Ode an Die Freude” by Beethoven. In his welcoming address to the men and women of the Fanfara, the Mayor of Alberobello, visibly moved, wanted to thank the Aeronautica Militare: “I thank you for what you have given us tonight. Alberobello has opened its doors to fantastic young people. Through the beauty of your music, you have made us proud to be Italian.” Colonel Giovanni Riganti, after thanking all the guests, addressed the Mayor: “This celebration held at an international level was received with great enthusiasm from the very beginning. It was a great opportunity to have our Fanfara perform in one of the most beautiful squares in Italy, a temple of music, art and culture.’ Our young people, in addition to raising our flag high, have a small mission: to be an example for their peers, transmitting to them, through their passion for music, values in which it is worth believing and living.
