Dissimilar Air Combat Training with the Swiss Air Force. Two pairs of Eurofighter aircraft belonging to the 9th Fighter Interceptor Group (C.I.) of the 4th Wing had the opportunity to fly two distinct joint missions alongside colleagues from the Swiss Air Force, equipped with F/A-18 Hornet aircraft of the 11th Squadron Fliegerstaffel belonging to the 13th Wing of the Swiss airbase in Meiringen, located in the centre of the country. The encounter between the fighters took place in a working area situated on the border between the two nations, against the backdrop of the striking Alps in their splendid grandeur.
The F18 platform, of US construction, represents an excellent example of a fourth-generation fighter, and for this reason, the joint activity was an important training asset both for the Italian and Swiss Eurofighters that found themselves collaborating with the Typhoon, considered among the best “plus” fourth-generation fighters, both for its performance and for its avionics and onboard systems. The 4th Wing of Grosseto, with its Eurofighter aircraft, is one of the two Italian bases that guarantees Airspace Surveillance service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
