From 8 to 26 June, specialist staff from 7th CBRN Defence Regiment “Cremona” of the Italian Army and 3rd Wing of the Air Force, supported by personnel from various Armed Forces Entities, took part in an international exercise in Canada Precise Response 2025, among the most important training activities of the countries NATO in the field of defence against Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) threats.
The exercise, hosted at Suffield base in Alberta, was organised by the Canadian Armed Forces along with the Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC), a Canadian government entity of the Department of National Defence, specialising in research, experimentation, and development of advanced operational capabilities for countering unconventional events.
In the context of extremely realistic operational scenarios, Italian military personnel from both Armed Forces have operated in close synergy with specialist assets from numerous countries within the Atlantic Alliance. The activity involved the use of live agents, an element that makes this exercise unique worldwide for its training value and technical-scientific rigour.
The joint forces teams tackled a sequence of simulated scenarios focused on interventions CBRN complex, by deploying their respective expertise in detection, identification, sampling, decontamination and control of contaminated areas, according to advanced protocols attributable to the SIBCRA procedures (Sampling and Identification of Biological, Chemical and Radiological AgentsDecontamination and CCAContamination Control Area).
This experience has represented an important opportunity for inter-force and multinational cooperation, not only to test the effectiveness of shared operational doctrines, but also to strengthen joint readiness and response capability for events. CBRN, in every operational context: national, allied, or multinational.
The joint participation of the 7th CBRN and the 3rd Wing confirms the strategic contribution of the Italian Armed Forces to the collective security system of NATO and the national device for CBRN emergency management, strengthening, through joint training, operational integration and the ability to act in a coordinated and effective manner in any crisis scenario.
