The prestigious award was presented to the personnel of the Remotely Piloted Aircraft Group of the 32nd Wing in Amendola. General Tosi was welcomed upon his arrival by Colonel Giancarlo Maragucci, Commander of the Apulian Wing.
During the brief but significant ceremony, it was highlighted how the constant commitment of the staff who have succeeded each other in the operational unit over the years, carrying out their duties with seriousness and professionalism, has contributed to establishing the prestige of the Armed Forces and the Nation, both at home and abroad, in the different operational contexts in which they have been called to operate.
The 28th Flight Group is equipped with remotely piloted aircraft (RPAS) MQ-1C “Predator A Plus” and MQ-9A “Predator B”, respectively employed within the framework of Operation ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) in Afghanistan and in the context of Operation KFOR in the skies of Kosovo.
Specifically, the Predator System within Task Group “ASTORE” carries out Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) tasks, as well as close air support for ground troops. The men and women of the 28th have completed over 10,000 flight hours, securing more than 2,000 targets and flying missions lasting over twenty-two hours. The operational activity, thanks to the peculiarities of the on-board active and passive sensors, allows continuous monitoring of Afghan territory, providing an irreplaceable contribution to the stabilisation, growth, and security of the Afghan people.
