The prestigious collective award was presented by the Air Force Commander MOn Wednesday 12 September, the Commander of the Air Force, Air Force General Fernando Giancotti, presented Colonel Pilot Tomaso Invrea, and symbolically the entire Wing personnel, with the highest award for conduct and outstanding performance.
IThe 15th Wing of the Italian Air Force guarantees search and rescue for flight crews in distress 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It also participates in public utility activities such as searching for missing persons at sea or in mountains, emergency medical transport for critically ill patients, and rescue of severely injured individuals. The training level of the crews, the characteristics of the aircraft provided, and the use of special equipment and techniques, such as night vision goggles, often make the Italian Air Force the only component capable of successfully managing the most complex emergency situations. This is thanks, for example, to the ability to operate by day, by night, and in marginal weather conditions. Since its establishment, the crews of the 15th Wing have saved approximately 7,200 people in life-threatening situations.
