An AB.212 helicopter rescues an elderly patient stranded on Ponza due to the prohibitive conditions of the sea
The crew of the 21st Tiger Group was alerted by the Air Operations Command (COA) of Poggio Renatico (Ferrara). In a few minutes the helicopter took off from the military airport and, after approximately half an hour of flight over the Tyrrhenian island, it immediately transported the patient to the airport of Latina for the subsequent hospitalization in the hospital.
The 9th Squadron, with the AB.212 helicopters, carries out Search and Rescue (S.A.R.) operations for personnel, both in Italy and within the framework of international missions, providing aerial support to the surface forces and intervening, in the presence of injured people, with emergency medical evacuation activities.
The SAR interventions are carried out under the command of the COA, which coordinates and employs the air assets of the Italian Air Force with SAR capabilities, deployed throughout the national territory.
The continuous training, the capabilities of the aircraft in service, as well as the night vision aids employed (N.V.G. – Night Vision Goggles), allow the crews to operate and provide assistance regardless of day or night, in any meteorological condition.
