The Falcon 50 aircraft of the 31st Wing from Ciampino carried out the delicate flight to bring two newborn babies to Rome, at the Bambino Gesù hospital. The two infants were being treated in the neonatal ward of the Cagliari hospital but, due to the worsening of their medical conditions, the institute's doctors declared them in imminent danger of death and therefore requested their prompt transfer to the Bambino Gesù hospital in Rome.
The request from the doctors was immediately transmitted by the Cagliari Prefecture to the Summit Situations Room of the Air Force Staff, which promptly ordered the takeoff of a Falcon 50 from the 31st Wing of Ciampino.
The aircraft, duly configured for the medical requirement, landed shortly afterwards at Cagliari Elmas airport where it embarked the two newborns, one of whom was on board a special thermal incubator to stabilise his condition during the flight, the mothers, and a medical team to assist the young patients during transport. Upon arrival at Ciampino, an ambulance transported the two patients to the Roman hospital. The Italian Air Force ensures the urgent medical transport of the sick, severely injured, people in imminent danger of life, and organs for transplantation, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, through the use of aircraft from the State fleet, assigned to the 31st Wing of Ciampino, and other assets available to the Armed Force (C-130J, C-27, P-180, HH 139), coordinated by the Summit Situation Room of the Air Force Staff.
