The transport, from Alghero to Genoa, was carried out overnight to allow for prompt intervention to save the foetus. An urgent transport took place on the night of Thursday 18 October for a 34-year-old pregnant woman, due to the severe health condition of the foetus.
The flight was carried out by a Falcon 900 from the 31st Wing of Ciampino, which took off at the request of the Prefecture of Sassari and authorisation from the Summit Situations Room of the Air Squad Command in Rome. The Summit Situations Room is in constant contact with Prefectures across the entire national territory to arrange various types of missions for the benefit of the community.
The aircraft, which arrived in Alghero to pick up the patient, took off around 2 AM to reach Genoa in less than an hour's flight. The woman was immediately taken to the “Gaslini” hospital to receive the necessary treatment.
For these types of missions, which require extremely rapid reaction times, the Air Force maintains assets and crews in operational readiness, available to citizens every single day of the year, 24 hours a day, capable of operating in complex weather conditions, ensuring the urgent transport of not only people in imminent danger of death and medical teams, as in today's case, but also of organs and ambulances.
