It recently concluded, after five weeks, at the’Academy the ENAV course in Forlì Aerodrome Control with Surveillance (ADC SUR), an important milestone in enhancing the operational capabilities of the Italian Air Force controller personnel. The course, conducted by ENAV SpA two Air Traffic instructors from the Airspace Control Training Department and two instructor controllers of the Decimomannu Standard Aerial Gunnery Experimentation and Standardisation Unit (RSSTA). This course represented an important step in cincreasingly significant collaboration between the military and civil sectors in the field of specialised Air Traffic training and instruction.
The qualification ADC SUR it represents a strategic specialisation that enables air traffic controllers to operate with advanced surveillance systems for safer, more precise and efficient management of aircraft within the control zone (ATZ) as well as the manoeuvring area of an airport; the attainment of this rating by military personnel is a prerequisite for the opening of a new operational service at Decimomannu airport. The skills acquired will be made available to the Armed Force, ensuring that the RACSA can in the near future deliver an ADC SUR course to Italian Air Force controller personnel.
Another concrete sign of how joint training between the Italian Air Force and ENAV SpA is set to become increasingly central to the future of integrated national airspace management comes from the frequency of RACSA instructors attending the Instructor course Human Factors provided by ENAV to’Academy of Forlì. The course aims to provide attendees with theoretical knowledge on the main behavioural and cognitive aspects that influence operational activity, such as decision-making under pressure, effective communication, stress management, and the ability to work in Team and to develop the technical skills to train operational personnel, in order to maintain the required level of performance in an increasingly complex national and international operational context.
The collaboration with ENAV SpA is part of a broader framework of cooperation between Defence and the civil sector, aimed at leveraging respective expertise and expanding professional growth opportunities for military personnel, promoting a common culture of safety and efficiency in air traffic control.
RACSA it is the training body of the Italian Air Force, with the task of training personnel from the Italian and foreign Armed Forces in the fields of Integrated Missile Air Defence, Air Traffic and Meteorology. Furthermore, it provides training support to external bodies such as the Department of Civil Protection and the National Fire Corps. The Unit is located at the Pratica di Mare Military Airport (RM) and is part of the Aerospace Control Brigade del Aerospace Operations Command of Poggio Renatico (FE).
