On Wednesday 16 September, at the helicopter hangar of the 31st Air Wing, the ceremony of succession between the two pilots took place. Colonel Federico Gentilucci, outgoing Commander, and the Colonel Sergio Perciaccante, Incoming Commander.
The ceremony, presided over by Commander of the Aerospace Control Brigade, Brigadier General Dario Tarantino, The event took place in the presence of numerous civil and military authorities, including the Commander of the 31st Squadron, Colonel Matteo Zuliani, the Mayor of the city of Ciampino, Lawyer Emanuela Colella, the flag of the municipality of Ciampino, the Combatant and Military Associations, and a large delegation of executives from ENAC (National Civil Aviation Authority) and ENAV S.p.A.
In his farewell speech, the Colonel Gentilucci, After two years in charge of the Coordination and Control Services, he revisited the command activities, sharing an absolutely positive assessment: “The Department, with its various departments and operational units scattered throughout the Italian territory, has always ensured the required operational capacity. The Department has always been ready to meet any requirement. We have always been there, constantly, in normal times as well as in times of crisis and emergencies.”.He then wanted to thank all the staff of the Department in all its operational and, above all, administrative and support components, without whom the activity of each traffic controller could not be carried out. “P”I brought with me a substantial technical background from a world previously unknown to me, and above all an immense human baggage of great value. I had the opportunity to meet and appreciate unquestionable professionals but also excellent people with whom to work side by side with mutual respect and trust”.
It Colonel Perciaccante, Subsequent to the ceremony, Subalterno collected the witness passed on to him with honor and gratitude, thanking the top leadership of the Armed Forces for the trust placed in him. Addressing the personnel, he then wanted to emphasize the importance of pride and passion in facing future challenges. “DFrom the very first moments I lived here, I sensed a strong pride in your work and a tangible and contagious passion for your activity; I recognized in you a hardworking and proactive attitude, ready to manage and control the aircraft, with a swift round of phone calls and radio calls with the various Aeronautical Authorities and the ENAV, so that whatever arrangement can carry out its mission quickly and effectively. Be proud of who you are, be aware of the importance of your work and of the extremely high quality of the service you provide. In the next two years we will work together, ensuring the continuity of coordination and control services, while fully implementing an industrial plan that will see the centralization of the Air Traffic Control functions to two hubs, Rome and Milan; we will make the Department increasingly efficient and adopt the best solutions to the challenges that will arise from time to time.”.
It General Tarantino, He thanked Colonel Gentilucci for the commitment shown during his tenure, highlighting the numerous and important achievements achieved: “In a context where the complexity of air operations has reached levels that require standardization of procedures and interoperability with the DAMI component, your command has been able to draw up a clear and precise route, allowing the conduct of flight operations in an efficient and safe environment and achieving the institutional objectives. The challenges you have faced have not been few: in particular, the new strategic project of ENAV S.p.A. aimed at reorganizing the new Air Traffic Management model through the creation of two Area Control Centers in Rome and Milan has posed and will continue to pose new challenges”. The incoming Commander offered his best wishes for a period of fruitful and rewarding command, emphasizing that the Armed Forces had recognized Col. Perciaccante for his moral qualities and the necessary skills, entrusting him with great responsibility. Finally, the BCA Commander addressed all the staff of the Service Coordination and Control Department, expressing his satisfaction and pride for what has been achieved and urging them to continue with unchanged commitment to pursue excellence, assuring Col. Perciaccante of the same passion, dedication, and determination that have so far distinguished the women and men of the SCCAM System.
It SCCAM Department, Similar to the 4 SCCAM employees in Rome, Milan, Padua and Brindisi, it is co-located at the adjacent ENAV S.p.A. Area Control Center (ACC) and provides support for air operations through the control and coordination of Operational Air Traffic over the entire national airspace, the management of airspace at the pre-tactical and tactical levels, and the coordination of the activities of the Air Defense in the context of General Air Traffic. The RSCCAM is subordinate to the Aerospazio Control Brigade of the Operational Air Operations Command of Poggio Renatico (FE).
