The ceremony took place at Centocelle Airport, in the presence of Air Force General Tiziano Tosi, Commander of the C.S.A. During the ceremony, approximately one hundred military personnel, officers and non-commissioned officers, from all over the national territory and serving in the C.S.A.-affiliated units, were awarded medals recently minted by the State Mint, who during their long careers have rendered honorable service and received testimonials of appreciation.
The event was also attended by the Chief of Staff of the CAA, General of the Air Division Enzo Vecciarelli, the Commander of the Mobility and Support Forces, General of the Air Brigade Vincezo Parma, the Commander of the Combat Forces, General of the Air Brigade Roberto Nordio, and the National Advisor of the “Nastro Verde” Association, General of the Air Brigade G.d.F. (r) Mario De Nuntiis, representing the Sodalizio guardian of the social and cultural values associated with the aforementioned decoration. The ceremony began with the speech of General Tosi, who wished to greet the awardees and their families, to whom he expressed his personal satisfaction with the achievements made during his career and the constant example he has provided to his colleagues. The award conferred during the event represents an important recognition that the Armed Forces pay to all those who have led exemplary careers of dedication to service, a spirit of self-sacrifice and professional ability. The “Maurizio Medal for Military Merit of Ten Years” was established by Royal Magistral Letters of 19 July 1839 and, by Royal Decree of 21 December 1924, the text of the uniform regulations and the provisions for its granting were approved. In particular, Law No. 203 of 7 May 1954 changed the name from “Maurizio Medal for Military Merit of Ten Years” to the current “Maurizio Medal for Ten Years of Military Service Merit”, establishing the new regulations for the award of the decoration, which would take place upon proposal of the Minister of Defense and with a Decree of the President of the Republic. The extension of the possibility of granting allowances to the Sub-officers of the Army, Navy and Air Force was sanctioned by Law No. 1327 of November 8, 1956, and subsequent amendments, defining the current criteria for calculating the ten-year periods of military service.
