The Intermediate Air Operations Preparation Course (CPO2) took place from 3 to 14 March. The CPO2 aims to train Officers, of various roles and categories, who are expected to hold positions of responsibility within a Command and Control structure for air operations, both nationally and multinationally. In particular, the course provides the necessary concepts for the development of JFACC (Joint Force Air Component Command) operational documentation, using the Operational Planning Process (OPP) methodology.
Staff trained during the recently concluded course will be selected for subsequent participation in Virtual Flag 2014, the Air Force’s main simulated exercise aimed at verifying the Armed Force’s capabilities to activate a JFACC, integrated into a NATO structure, to plan, direct and conduct an air campaign in a Crisis Response Operation (CRO) context.
This year, the Virtual Flag exercise will have a strong Joint Services flavour, merging with the Eagle Joker 14 exercise of the Nato Rapid Deployable Corps (NRDC) in Solbiate Olona, into the Joint Eagle 2014 exercise.
The mission of AOTC is to prepare and qualify Armed Forces personnel for Air Operations Command and Control tasks to be carried out within complex structures such as the JFACC in national and multinational contexts (NATO, EU, UN, coalitions).
