Press Release no. 9/2018 AERONAUTICS: NEWBORN IN IMMINENT DANGER OF DEATH TRANSPORTED URGENTLY FROM ALGHERO TO The newborn was transported urgently from Alghero to Genoa with the aid of a special thermal cradle The Falcon 50 of the 31st Wing of the Italian Air Force, which urgently transported a newborn in imminent danger of life from Alghero, landed a few minutes ago at Genoa airport. The baby, who needed to be transferred as quickly as possible to the Gaslini Hospital in Genoa for specialist treatment, travelled in a thermal cradle, assisted during the journey by a medical team. The request for transport was initiated by the Prefecture of Sassari to the Top Situation Room of the Air Squadron Command, the Armed Force's operations room which deals – amongst other things – with the coordination and management of this kind of mission for the benefit of the community. Every year, hundreds of flight hours are carried out by Italian Air Force aircraft for urgent medical transport, both of people in danger of life and of medical teams and/or organs, for humanitarian flights, and for search and rescue missions. Crews of the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 15th Wing of Cervia and the subordinate SAR (Search and Rescue) Centres, the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa and the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare are ready 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, to take off at very short notice for any destination in Italy and abroad at the request of Hospitals, Prefectures and, in the case of missions abroad, diplomatic representations.
