Press release no. 63/2017 MILITARY AERONAUTICS: URGENT HEALTH TRANSPORT FROM SARDINIA FOR A FEW-WEEK-OLD BABY The flight of a Falcon 50 from the 31st Ciampino Wing of the Italian Air Force carrying a baby in imminent danger of death was recently completed. The medical transport was requested by the Prefecture of Cagliari to urgently transfer the little patient from the “Monserrato” hospital in Cagliari to the Gaslini hospital in Genoa. The child, as always happens in such cases, was assisted during the flight by a specialised medical team. The aircraft, which took off on orders from the Air Force's Summit Situations Room, landed at Genoa airport at 13:30, where it disembarked the child and the medical team, who were immediately transported by ambulance to the hospital. The aircraft then took off again for Ciampino, the headquarters of the 31st Wing, where the crew resumed 24-hour emergency service. The ambulance flight, one of the services in favour of the community that the Air Force ensures through aircraft and crews that are ready to take off at very short notice, requires maximum timeliness. The Air Force, through its Flight Departments, provides aircraft and crews ready to take off 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, without interruption and able to operate in all weather conditions. Hundreds of such interventions are carried out every year by Air Force aircraft, which are always ready for take-off and have the capacity to take on board specific medical and healthcare teams and equipment, such as thermal cradles, or even an ambulance with the patient on board, as in the case of the aircraft of the 46th Air Brigade in Pisa.
